Sharps and Clinical Waste Management in Wolverhampton

Perched upon the Midlands Plateau, in Black Country Wolverhampton’s history dates right back to 985, named after its founder Lady Wulfruna, who was said to be granted the land by ‘Ethelred the Unready’, King of the English. In 994 she built a church and monastery and through the middle ages it became a small market town.

It wasn’t till the 18th century, that an industrial revolution took place and transformed this sleepy town into an important city, noted for steel works and jewellery as well as lock making and Japanning (a European imitation of Asian lacquer work) which became popular finishes for items such as snuff boxes.

In the 19th century the Great Western Railway opened a factory making and repairing locomotives and a bicycle manufacturing trade also boomed from 1868 till 1975. While manufacturing is still small a part of the local economy, the days of metal works and coal pits are in the past. Today collieries have become parks and the mansions (and art in them) have been passed to local councils or the National Trust.

Now this former industrial town, situated between its neighbours Birmingham, Staffordshire and Shropshire is a juxtaposition of the past and the present, thanks to places like Wightwick Manor, Bantock House Museum and Park and Moseley Old Hall an Elizabethan house that served as a refuge for Charles II during the Battle of Worcester.

Where places like West Park, Baggeridge Country Park and David Austin’s Rose garden (considered one of the best in the world, featuring over 700 varieties) and Himley Hall and Park provide a chance to enjoy the outdoors.

Today Wulfrunians enjoy great schools, parks, theatres and healthcare.
