Sharps and Clinical Waste Management in Middlesbrough

Known as Mydilsburgh in early Saxon times, after the settlement’s central location between Durham and Whitby. It wasn’t until 1829 when a group of astute Quaker businessmen purchased some land to build a new coal port that the town of Middlesbrough we know today, was born.

Sitting in North Yorkshire, on the River Tees, it was one of the UK’s most important industrial ports. By 1850 thanks to the discovery of iron ore in the Cleveland Hills, ‘Ironopolis’ was born, bursting with foundries and factories. New streets formed to house the local workers. Theatres, clubs, libraries and pubs were built and its football club Middlesbrough FC (or The Boro as referred to by the local smoggies) was founded. By the turn of the century Middlesbrough was home to almost 90,000 people. Never in British history had any other town experienced such rapid growth, which earned it the nickname of ‘the oldest new town’ in England.

Today there is loads to enjoy in Middlesbrough from the beautiful Georgian style architecture of the old houses to the Palladian style of Ormesby Hall and Captain Cook’s birthplace. While the town centre is quite different from the one Joseph Pease and Partners planned, St Hilda’s is now the old town and Linthorpe, Albert, Corporation and Grange Roads make up the modern centre, bursting with shopping precincts, a university and bars. For a little more action catch a game at Riverside Stadium, discover delicious artesian food and drinks at the Orange Pip Market or go bungee jumping from the iconic Transporter Bridge.

Today, despite their best efforts to become a city, The Boro remains still remains a town proud of its industrial roots and great healthcare.

Cost effective Pharmaceutical waste management for Middlesbrough Hospitals and Pharmacies

One of the many specialist healthcare facilities we work with is pharmacies and chemists both independent and within hospitals, supporting to achieve compliance in the handling, disposal and treatment of hazardous and non-hazardous pharmaceutical waste and expired medications. Per the Health Technical Memorandum 07-01 (HTM-07-01), pharmacies are legally responsible for guaranteeing that their waste is properly segregated, labelled, and packaged for transport, so it’s essential to have a partner that is not only well versed in the applicable regulations, but also have compliant operational practices to manage the collection, transport and treatment back-end.

Sharpsmart’s range of pharmaceutical containers for sharps and expired medications are quite literally the “safest” in the industry. Designed with inbuilt safety locks, safety trays to prevent content retrieval, and secure mounting to prevent unauthorised movement, the Sharpsmart system protects the risk profile of Middlesbrough pharmacies and chemists in the management of pharmaceutical waste.
