Known as Mydilsburgh in early Saxon times, after the settlement’s central location between Durham and Whitby. It wasn’t until 1829 when a group of astute Quaker businessmen purchased some land to build a new coal port that the town of Middlesbrough we know today, was born.

Today there is loads to enjoy in Middlesbrough from the beautiful Georgian style architecture of the old houses to the Palladian style of Ormesby Hall and Captain Cook’s birthplace. While the town centre is quite different from the one Joseph Pease and Partners planned, St Hilda’s is now the old town and Linthorpe, Albert, Corporation and Grange Roads make up the modern centre, bursting with shopping precincts, a university and bars.
