Sharpsmart reusable sharps containers are emptied and sanitised at our clean processing facilities using our independently tested “Washsmart” system. A fully automated, robotic system used for decanting, washing, sanitising and drying our containers.


All of our Sharpsmart containers are washed through a rigorous 8-step process, entering a washing chamber combining environmentally friendly cleaning liquids, powerful jet-blasting hoses and steam technology to achieve the highest levels of bacterial load reduction and microbiological efficacy.

  • Decontamination: Blood and human-source soiling are completely removed and the inside of the collector is now safe for handling
  • Sanitisation: Daniels Washsmart system has been extensively researched, tested and independently verified - achieving a level of sanitisation 4 times higher than required by the US’s CDC
  • Quality Control Parameters: The time, temperature and water volumes necessary to achieve this level of cleaning are closely monitored. If any parameter falls outside our set criteria, the Washsmart machine immediately shuts down so it can be repaired
  • Tested: The Washsmart process passes the stringent Ninhydrin test – a forensic-level test to detect traces of blood or proteins and before delivery to you, our collector is physically inspected; the safety tray mechanism tested and inbuilt security locks checked
