Frequently Asked Questions

How do I dispose of Botox vials safely?

Because botulinum toxin is classed as a cytotoxic medicine due to its toxicity, all used, part-used or expired Botox vials must go into the purple-lidded cytotoxic/cytostatic waste container. If a syringe is attached, dispose of the whole unit in a purple-lidded sharps container.

Keep containers close to the point-of-use, close them when the safe fill line level is reached, and arrange collection through a licensed clinical waste provider to ensure full compliance with HTM 07-01 and UK environmental legislation.
