Does opening/closing lid of medical device containers pose infection risk in the OR?

Device collections have occurred since the 1970’s in U.S. and is now common practice in most Operating Rooms. The opening/closing of lids has not been documented in pathogen or disease transmission. No regulation/guideline requires lids to be down on containers designated for medical device collection.
