What is Clinical Waste

Clinical waste is the term used to describe waste produced from healthcare and similar activities that may pose a risk of infection to any person coming in contact with it. Classified in the 1992 Controlled Waste Regulations, clinical waste includes any waste that consists wholly or partly of Syringes, needles or other sharp instruments which, unless rendered safe, may prove hazardous to any person coming into contact with it, swabs and dressings, human tissue, drugs and other pharmaceutical products, blood or bodily fluids and any other waste generated from medical, dental, pharmaceutical or other healthcare practices.
