North East & Yorkshire Clinical Waste Disposal Services
With more than 2,700 healthcare facilities served, the North East & Yorkshire is Sharpsmart’s largest regional operation in the UK. Two dedicated sites – a full processing plant in Normanton and a transfer station in Spennymoor – give the region coverage that reaches from Leeds and Sheffield up through County Durham and into North Cumbria. It’s a presence built over 25 years, anchored by a 20-year partnership with the region’s Northern Consortium of NHS trusts.
Our North East & Yorkshire Operations
Our Normanton plant at Unit 1, Loscoe Close, Normanton WF6 1TW handles the heavy processing – sharps, alternative treatment (orange bag) waste, and heavy metals are all treated on-site, and reusable containers are washed and returned to service from here. Further north, our Spennymoor station at Unit 1, Enterprise City, Meadowfield Avenue, Spennymoor DL16 6JF operates as a clinical waste transfer point, shortening collection routes for facilities across the North East.
Across both sites:
- Sharps, orange bag, and heavy metals waste are processed at Normanton.
- Spennymoor consolidates North East collections for onward treatment.
- Reusable containers move through Sharpsmart-owned facilities end-to-end.
A Vision for Safety
Our ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 certifications, SafeContractor accreditation (OQ4530), and membership with the HWMA, CIWM, and ESA mean our compliance credentials are independently audited.
